Corticosteroid Injections (CSI)

In addition to hyaluronate-based products, we are also able to provide corticosteroid injections (CSI) when clinically appropriate.

Corticosteroid injections are most commonly delivered into a joint space, but they can also be used to target specific soft-tissue structures. These injections contain glucocorticoids—synthetic versions of naturally occurring hormones that play a key role in regulating inflammation. By reducing the body’s inflammatory response at the injection site, CSI can help decrease pain and improve mobility.

A corticosteroid injection typically begins to take effect within a few days, though it may take several weeks for the full benefit to be felt. In many cases, a small amount of local anaesthetic is administered at the same time to help minimise discomfort immediately after the procedure.

It is important to clarify that these medical corticosteroids are not the same as anabolic steroids.

Clinical Considerations

Not all conditions are suitable for corticosteroid injections, and patient selection is essential to ensure safe and effective care. While CSI can be beneficial for certain joint or soft-tissue conditions—especially when severe pain is limiting your ability to function or participate in rehabilitation—they are not appropriate for everyone. At Physiomac, we take a cautious, evidence-based approach and often advise against injections when they are unlikely to provide meaningful benefit.

If you are experiencing persistent pain that has not responded to conventional treatment, or if inflammation is significantly affecting your daily life, please contact us to discuss whether a corticosteroid injection may be an option for you.
